 الأمل بالله

 محمد توفيق ممدوح الرفاعي

يا رب جارت الأيام بسوء غدرها

ونالت مني بسياط ظلمها

كبلت بالأصفاد أطرافي وأوثقت

ورمت بي في أحلك سواد ليلها

أبيت والأنين يؤرق مضجعي

وأصحو على ألم جلد سياطها

ولم يبق لي سوى لسان صدق

أشكو به ربي حياة مر مذاقها

وقلب سكن حب الله به موقن

بأن ربي يعلم سر نفسي وصلاحها

أناجيك ربي وصلا ومحبة أنشدها

تخرجني من ضيق حياة زاد إيلامها

 وطمع برحمة منك أرجو نيلها

تريح نفسي من هموم وتسعدها

Hope in God

Mohamed Tawfiq Mamdouh Al-Rifai

Oh God, the days have been unfair with their treachery

And have taken from me the whips of their injustice

They have shackled my limbs and bound

And have thrown me into the blackest blackness of their night

I refuse and groaning disturbs my sleep

And I wake up to the pain of the lashes of their whips

And I have nothing left but a truthful tongue

With it I complain to my Lord about a life whose taste is bitter

And a heart inhabited by the love of God, certain

That my Lord knows the secret of my soul and its righteousness

I commune with you, my Lord, and I seek union and love

To take me out of the distress of a life whose pain has increased

And I hope for mercy from You that I hope to attain

To relieve my soul of worries and make it happy
